Leading global distributor Kew Media Distribution will showcase a slew of eagerly-awaited and ground-breaking feature documentaries at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, North America’s largest documentary festival, conference and market.

Kew Media Distribution, part of Kew Media Group, will launch Killing Patient Zero (1 x 98’) from Fadoo Productions and Fine Point Films, which spans the pre-AIDs era of the 1970s up to today. Gaëtan Dugas, aka Patient Zero, a Canadian flight attendant, serves as the perfect microcosm of the disease’s evolution in America: the interruption of a new sexual liberation, the search for answers, the arrival of flawed conclusions, and the new clarity brought about by scientific progress, replacing the confusion and hysteria of the ’80s.

Also new from Kew Media Distribution is White Pine Pictures’ Toxic Beauty (1 x 90’ or 1 x 78’) which follows the class action lawsuit against the world’s largest healthcare company, Johnson & Johnson, and the plaintiffs; women fighting for justice in a race against time. Each morning we spritz and slather ourselves in over 100 different chemicals – yet the cosmetics and personal care industry in North America is not required to prove an ingredient is safe for human health before it is on the shelves. Whilst Our Godfather (1 x 93’) reveals for the first time, the story of Tommaso Buscetta, an Italian gangster who became the first high-ranking Mafia boss ever to turn against Cosa Nostra, testifying against the Mob, both in the US and in Italy. A Black Earth Films and Phenomen Trust Production, the film features exclusive access to his family, who remain in America and are now breaking their silence after more than 30 years in hiding.

Also on Kew’s Hot Docs slate is Fine Point Films’ BOJAYÁ: Caught in the Crossfire (1 x 80’) which uncovers the story of Leyner Palacios, a community leader and Nobel peace prize nominee, who lost 32 relatives in one massacre. The 2002 Bojayá massacre was and remains one of the worst mass atrocities in Colombia’s 50 year-long conflict. The victims were never to be properly identified. As a result, Leyner decided to become a lawyer to fight for his people’s rights and in 2014 co-founded the Committee for Rights of Victims of Bojayá, representing 11,000 victims.

Jonathan Ford, Executive Vice President of Sales at Kew Media Distribution, commented, “We have a long-established reputation of working with the very best producers of factual programming from all over the world. We are passionate about this in-demand genre and eager to present a further unique line-up of exceptional feature documentaries at Hot Docs, which we know will affirm our position as the ‘go-to’ company for award-winning non-fiction content.”
